It is a lovely country and most people are fluent in two, often three and not unusually four languages - their national culture and their language which were oppressed by the Swedes and then after 1809 the Russians was fostered by their teachers and teacher training schools in Finland were the powerhouses of Finnish nationalism. And they have more saunas per head of population than any other country in the world LOL
Wouldn't it be nice if US teacher training schools were thought of as "powerhouses"?
Of course, Finland is best enjoyed in the summer -- winter is a bit bleak. The white nights of summer are replaced by dark days of winter -- the sun seems to never come up. Maybe it's easier to get kids to study when it is cold and dark all the time? If that were the case, Siberia would lead the world.
Finland has come up with a winning formula and I can't wait to see the movie.
